Home Addition Contractor Serving Westerly, Stonington, Mystic & Surrounding Communities

Expand your home without the hassle, the real estate commissions, or the moving truck.

More Space. Same Address.

In today's Westerly and coastal Connecticut housing market, moving isn't always the obvious answer. Inventory is limited. Prices are up. And the neighborhoods people want to be in — Westerly, Charlestown, Watch Hill, Stonington, Mystic, Groton — are desirable precisely because of where they are.

A home addition gives you the space you need without leaving the home and community you've built your life in. And when Breachway Building Co. builds it, it's done right — permitted, engineered, and finished so seamlessly it looks like it was always part of the house.

Owner Josh Sherman manages every addition project from the first site visit through the final certificate of occupancy. You get a fixed-price contract before work begins and a contractor who answers when you call.

What We Build

Room Additions

Adding a bedroom, a home office, an expanded living room, or a dedicated playroom is the most straightforward way to gain meaningful square footage. We design the addition to match your home's existing architecture so it reads as an original feature, not an afterthought.

We handle everything from foundation work to final paint — framing, insulation, electrical, drywall, flooring, and all exterior tie-in. Permitting is included.

In-Law Suites & Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

In-law suites are one of the most requested additions we build across southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut. Whether you're planning for an aging parent, a returning adult child, or a rental income opportunity, a well-built ADU adds real value to your property.

We build attached in-law suites, above-garage apartments, and detached ADU structures. Rhode Island and Connecticut have both expanded ADU allowances in recent years — Josh understands the local permitting landscape and can advise on what's allowed on your specific property.

Second-Story Additions

When you can't expand outward, you go up. Second-story additions are more complex than ground-level additions — they require structural assessment of the existing foundation and first floor, careful sequencing to keep the home livable during construction, and attention to roofline integration. We've done them throughout this area and we know how to execute them cleanly.

Sunrooms & Three-Season Rooms

Southern Rhode Island and coastal Connecticut are beautiful places to be outside and a sunroom or three-season room extends that season considerably. We build fully insulated four-season rooms, three-season spaces with screened or windowed panels, and everything in between. These spaces are consistently among the most-used rooms in the homes where we've built them.

Garage Additions & Conversions

Whether you need a new attached or detached garage, or you want to convert an existing garage into finished living space, we handle both. Garage conversions are particularly cost-effective since the slab, roof, and exterior walls often already exist.

Open Concept Expansions

Sometimes an addition isn't a new room, it's removing a wall and connecting two spaces that should have always been together. We assess structural requirements, handle the engineering, and execute the expansion so the result feels designed, not improvised.

Moving in Today's Market

  • You get someone else's floor plan, not the one you actually want

  • No guarantee you end up with more usable space
